RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA

Tiravanija is the artist that I was telling about two classes ago who cooks for gallery goers and generally explores the social role of the artist. He has used food many times and his work has taken the shape of rooms for sharing meals and cooking.  This work has been theorized about by Nicolas Bourriaud as having a “relational aesthetics.”

The piece below is a map he created in relation to food, geography and a way to explore the city.  What do you think?

RIRKRIT TIRAVANIJA, UNTITLED (EATING MAP) (2007)
Artist Rirkrit Tiravanija's map details an Epicurean walk from his apartment in Alphabet City through the Lower East Side and Chinatown to the New Museum's new site on the Bowery using both words and pictures.  Along the way he experiences dim sum, kosher pickles and a Chinese haircut.
