This is not the final painting, please let me know what you think?

This is the progress that I made on my painting, please let me know your opinion about the spider web covering the figure. I haven't finished it yet but I want to make sure if it's working.
The figure is really feeling sculptural! Good job on making sure that the arm is receding and the hand is in the foreground. As for the spider web keep going with that motif and remember that you want to keep thinking about color as you are building up the web. Spider webs are not really all white. Go out and do some studies to enrich that piece of the painting. But great job keep on going!
ReplyDeleteThe leg looks very defined because of the use of light and shadow and the green of the shorts is a great mix of paints.

I love her shorts. But the leg looks like she has a dent in it becareful i making the core shadows. But the hands are teriffic.yeay katherine
ReplyDeleteI think overall your painting looks very good, but i would suggest that you work a bit more on the figures face. I think the spider web will work once you are done with it.

Nice progress! The way that the spider web drapes over the figure is working well with the added color variations that you added, which allows our eye to move through the painting. It does seem as if the web towards the edges of the painting is working better than the one at the center. I think the center of the web is a little tiff compared to the rest. reworking that shape would really help. Also don't be afraid to rework the "negative space in the background when you need to. I'm looking forward to seeing it tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this painting, but there are a couple of things that stand out in a not so positive way. First, the arm, forearm, and hand seem like they don't belong to the same extremity. Second, the facial expression of the woman doesn't really correspond to the presence of the huge spider web right next to her. As I see it, if there is a big spider web in the room, there's gotta be a big spider somewhere nearby.

Teymur, thank you for your comment and you’re right when there’s a web there should be a spider and I thought about the idea of putting a portion of spider’s body on the upper edge of the canvas but I changed my mind since it would made the painting too crowded and also since this is an abstract painting we can change things around. Regarding her facial expression…she is aware of the spider web behind her but she has the power to tear down the web and that’s the reason she is smiling.
ReplyDeleteThe spired web can be used as a metaphorical device to obscure the figure. Meaning that there does not need to be literally a spider in the space. It is more about the visual play between the figure and the web. Painting allows us to bring things together to talk about another idea or reality. Does that make sense? Otherwise we as painters would just be rendering the physical world and that would get boring very quickly...
ReplyDeleteI actually like your painting!I like how you clearly showed the light reflection but I think you need to work on her hand and face a little bit more but over all good job
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great in general. I love the idea of this painting, but I believe If u work more on the figures face
ReplyDeleteand web It will look much better
I am going to work on the face, redo the negative spaces and work a little on the web…
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your helpful comments :)
