Here is another CalArts alum doing interested abstract work that comes from the mystical and ocult the side of things. I'll be taking a look at this next week. Take a look at her website as well:

  1. I Checked Christina Ondrus' website and what I liked the most is the "Metaphysical Hand", which is oil on canvas. The painting shows us that our hands/bodies are surrounded by energy which is not visible to our naked eyes. The field of energy around the hand and the colors used in the painting give us the feeling of our "super natural power" that we are not aware of...you can really feel the energy and the heat in that painting.

  2. I also checked out Christina's web site. My favorite works of her's are the ones in the "mystical mindedness" and "searchers & seekers" sections. I am drawn to metaphysical subjects in art. I feel that art should be thought-provoking. I especially appreciate subject matter that opens the viewer's mind to the many realities that may not yet be proven by science (yet) such as auras, extraterestrial visits, the unkown powers of the human mind (eg: esp, etc.) and alternative spiritual theories.

As far as her technique, I liked the ones in which she uses the dripping technique, which I plan to explore in my own art. I think it gives so much movement and emotion to a piece. I also plan to explore more texture such as that in "The Grotto".

  3. I went to the exhibit and was a surprised to see her exploration of a works through assemblage. The works she displayed on her website consist of multi-media works. The exhibit was primarily assemblage and gathered objects. While the artworks consisted of literal and symbolic interpretations from the artist, they consisted of very little creation of new works made by the artist. Stacking objects with books to represent conceptual ideas were well executed. There was little if any, artistic application or technique.

I liked Christinas website. Her news works look very good in the gallery setting with the metallic paint and glowing red paint. I'm sure the visual impression is even greater in the light filled room.

  5. Christina's website was very enjoyable and inspiring. I really like a lot of her work, especially the searchers and seekers and geo-centers paintings. I love the colors she uses in these paintings. They each set a mood for the viewer, whether it's a heavy mood or light mood. I really enjoyed the painting Grotto done with oil paint and plaster relief on a panel. It is very mystical and intense. I also really enjoyed her perceptual incongruence meditations and incantation charts works. They all consist solely of words mostly done with graphite on black paper. They may seem simple but I think their simplicity makes them very interesting.
