Painting II Class-Giorgio Morandi

(This post on Morandi was originally posted last September for my Fall 2009 painting class. You can take a look back and read the discussion)

By pushing warm and cool colors Morandi got some beautiful results! If you look closely you can see he was probably using some ultramarine blue as well.

Take a look at the work of Giorgio Morandi. He got amazing results with a limited palette and very pared down still lives.  It is the hue, tone and mood that he was able to produce in this work that make it outstanding. The light that emanates from these small paintings is so beautiful!

Below I'm also including a photo of one of the paintings done by a student last semester with the limited palette that you are using. She was able to achieve a nice range of color by really pushing the relationships between the colors. She is making the most out of this palette. Let me know what you think...

Brush lady is coming to GCC room AA112

The brush lady is coming on Thursday, February 25th, from 11:30 - 3 pm to room AA112. If you can make it at that time I highly recommended it. She has amazing prices for Oil, Acrylic and Watercolor brushes!

Welcome to Art 160-163!

I will be posting through out the semester about relevant topics, artist, and exhibits that I think will help and interest you. It will be your responsibility to take a look each week and respond to something that you find interesting, respond to another student's comment or ask a relevant question. You can take a look at the posts from last semester to get an idea of how it works.
